Week 2 was much more organised and productive compared to Week 1. After receiving critical feedback on week 1, I took 10 steps back and reassessed my project. I realised that by looking at the first aid kit design, I had embedded myself in that idea and focused too hard on reproducing a care package that was similar in fashion to that physical box-like kit. Taking a step back, I went back to look at my original research and inspirations. Looking at my original proposal, my project is focused and revolved around the idea of packaging a little bit of home up and taking it with you when you travel. Then it hit me, what if I went for something more homely and reusable. I decided to experiment with the idea of a bindle, something that is literally you wrapping up abit of home and travelling.

I started by looking at a design for the bindle, for a sample, I plan to develop 3 basic bindle style care packages for 3 countries as a general homesick kit. I'm going for 3 basic designs first, 1 for Singapore as I'm familiar with it as home and designing it initially will be easy and it'll allow me to go in depth with it. During the week, I hosted a survey to find out which country home is for people and what people miss and would take from home. The 2 most popular countries where UK and China. Hence, as a initial test, I will be creating 3 basic bindles, Singapore, UK and China. But I wanted to make them look unique, something that'll remind someone of home. E.g. for Singapore, the idea of Batik is common and highly recognised. This Batik design is reflected on the Singapore Airlines' stewardess sarong Kebaya and is recognised around the world. Inspired by that design concept, I want to create unique patterns and design for bindle's that represent it's home country. From there, I began to develop basic designs for my 'Singapore' bindle electronically inspired by the traditional batik design. (To do: more detailed research into the history of Batik and how it's originally done.) I feel I haven't done enough primary research, I plan to go to the design . museum sometime this following week. Do more detailed research and look for more conceptual research and just do more primary research in general.
